- In 2012, Byron launched a web series featuring Black creatives called SOUL which included interviews, profiles and features of restauranteurs and food-related events in Toronto.
- In 2022, Byron became the recipient of a Canadian Ethnic Media Association award for "best online article" as decided by a jury of colleagues in media.
- Byron is also the recipient of a National Arts Council grant for an upcoming work of literary fiction.

Byron Armstrong is an award-winning freelance journalist who has been shining a light on the intersections between food, culture, and lifestyle. From 2018 onward, he continued to explore his interests through publication in print and digital media, where he's made a positive impact on readers through diligent and honest reporting. Byron's bylines include The Globe and Mail, The Toronto Sun, The National Gallery of Canada Magazine, The Artist & The Viewer-Toronto Art Newspaper, ELLE Canada, NOW Magazine, NUVO Magazine, Ricochet Media, BetaKit, TasteToronto, Foodism TO, Cuisine Noir, Chef Joe Friday's Food Politics Blog, ByBlacks.com, and the UN-affiliated Arts Help, the top art publisher in the world with a community of four million members. Education
Byron studied English Literature for a year at Ottawa's Carleton University before leaving to pursue other interests. A product of the digital age, Byron also regularly engages with mentors from the world of TV, film, theatre, and literature through webinars and writing groups including Paragraph NY: Workspace For Writers, Playdate Theatre, and Catapult.
